We arrived at the flat just after 9AM, armed with gloves, masks, a mop, and a quiet sense of dread.
The tenant had already “moved out.”
Translation: they took their PlayStation and left behind three socks, a lava lamp, and what appeared to be the emotional residue of every bad decision they’d made since 2017.
The place wasn’t just dirty.
It was hostile.
The bathroom mirror had seen things.
The fridge was growing what might qualify as a new species.
There was an entire drawer dedicated to soy sauce packets.
And in the hallway cupboard, we found a crumpled birthday card addressed to “Mum” and a single sandal. Just one. Facing the wrong way.
Now, end-of-tenancy cleans are their own kind of beast.
You’re not just scrubbing surfaces — you’re reversing years of “I’ll do it later.”
You’re battling burnt-on lasagne, toothpaste fossils, mystery carpet goo, and that one kitchen drawer that smells like despair.
But that’s our bread and butter.
We started in the kitchen.
Oven? Looked like someone tried to roast a tyre in there.
We used our industrial degreaser and elbow grease so strong it should be bottled.
An hour later, the oven was so clean you could host a TED Talk in it.
Next up: the bathroom.
There was mould. There was grime.
There was a toothbrush fused to the wall with what we can only assume was hair gel from the pre-covid era.
We brought in hospital-grade disinfectants, grout scrubbers, and a no-nonsense attitude.
Every tile, tap, and toilet got a top-to-bottom glow-up.
Carpets? Steam-cleaned into submission.
Windows? So clear the landlord walked into one.
Cupboards? Wiped, lined, and rid of that weird oily film that comes from living off Uber Eats and regret.
By 4.45PM, the flat was unrecognisable.
The property manager arrived, took one look, and said, “Are you sure this is the same place?”
We nodded. Then pointed at the lone sandal still waiting by the door.
Because when the flat fights back, the Candoo crew fights harder.
We don’t just clean. We reset the entire energy of the place so the next person can move in and start fresh — ideally with matching shoes.
